our
Beliefs

These are the core doctrines we stand on at Church of the Way. We believe these truths are essential to the Christian faith, and they’re what unite us as a church family.

We’re not here to divide over secondary issues or personal preferences.

On the non-essentials, we give room for grace, conversation, and different perspectives. But on the essentials, we stand together.

The Holy Spirit Inspired Scriptures.

2 Timothy 3:15–17

1 Thessalonians 2:13

2 Peter 1:21

We believe the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God. God used human writers, but the Holy Spirit guided every word. Because of that, Scripture is infallible, authoritative, and always relevant for how we live, what we believe, and how we follow Jesus.
The Bible reveals God’s full plan of redemption, and it is our final authority above culture, opinions, and traditions. Nothing else compares to the weight and truth of God’s Word, and it is the standard for every believer and for this church.

The One True God.

Deuteronomy 6:4

Isaiah 43:10–11

Matthew 28:19

Luke 3:22

We believe there is one living and true God, eternal, all-powerful, all-wise, and perfectly holy.

He created everything, and He alone is the Redeemer of humanity. God has revealed Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Three distinct persons, yet one God, united in essence, purpose, and glory.
The Trinity isn’t a contradiction; it’s God showing us His relational nature and His unity. The Father is God. The Son is God. The Holy Spirit is God. Not three Gods, but one sovereign, eternal God.

The Deity of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 1:23

Luke 1:31–35

Matthew 28:6

We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

He is the Word made flesh, fully God and fully man, who stepped into our world to redeem humanity.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and His miracles revealed both His power and His compassion.

Jesus willingly gave His life on the Cross as the sacrifice for the sins of every person.
He was crucified, buried, and rose bodily on the third day. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us as our Mediator and High Priest.
And He will return again in power and glory as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

The Fall of Man and God’s Provision for Redemption.

Genesis 1:26–27

Romans 5:12–19

Luke 24:47

We believe that in the beginning, God created man and woman in His image, pure, innocent, and able to walk in relationship with Him.

But humanity chose to rebel, and through that decision, sin entered the world.

That fall brought spiritual and physical death, separation from God and a broken, corrupted nature.
Because of that, every one of us has sinned.

Every one of us falls short of God’s glory. And every one of us needs salvation.
But God, in His love and mercy, made a way through the blood of Jesus Christ. Salvation comes only through repentance toward God and faith in Jesus.

Through His work, we are justified, made new, and born again by the Holy Spirit.

We also believe in sanctification, God setting us apart from sin after we are saved.

It happens through the blood of Jesus, the truth of His Word, and the Holy Spirit working inside us.
And we believe in the resurrection: eternal life for those who belong to Christ, and eternal separation from God for those who reject the gift of salvation.

The Ordinances of the Church.

Matthew 28:19

Mark 16:16

Acts 10:47–48

Romans 6:4

1 Corinthians 11:26

2 Peter 1:4

We believe Jesus gave His Church two sacred ordinances, outward signs that show the inward work of God in our lives.

These aren’t empty rituals. They’re acts of obedience, declarations of faith, and reminders of our relationship with Him.

1. Water Baptism
We believe that anyone who repents and puts their faith in Jesus should follow Him in water baptism by full immersion.

Jesus commanded it, and we obey it. Baptism is a public declaration that we identify with His death, burial, and resurrection. It represents the old life being washed away and the beginning of a new life in Christ in the name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.

2. The Lord’s Supper
We believe Communion should be practiced regularly as a memorial Jesus Himself established.

The bread and the cup remind us of His body and His blood.

When we take Communion, we do it with reverence, self-examination, and unity, with hearts that are repentant and reconciled.
It’s a moment to remember His suffering and sacrifice, to celebrate the life we share with Him, and to declare that He is coming again. We observe it faithfully until He returns.

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

Luke 3:16Luke 3:16

Acts 1:8

Acts 2:1–4

We believe every believer receives the Holy Spirit the moment they repent and put their faith in the finished work of Jesus on the Cross.

At salvation, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of us, making us new, justifying us, and beginning the work of sanctification.

It’s the Holy Spirit who draws people to Jesus, convicts the heart, and enables us to surrender to Christ as Lord.

But we also believe the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a separate and distinct experience. It’s an empowering encounter available to every believer, a gift from the Father meant to equip us for bold, effective Christian living and ministry.

Scripture shows that speaking in tongues is often the first physical sign of this baptism, just like in the book of Acts.

While it’s not the only evidence of the Spirit’s work, it is a biblical and historical sign of this outpouring.

We believe the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a promise for every follower of Jesus.

Every believer should seek it with expectation, because when the Holy Spirit fills us, He gives us power to be witnesses, releases spiritual gifts, and strengthens us to carry out God’s work.

This was the normal pattern of the early church—Acts 2, Acts 10, Acts 19—and it’s still God’s pattern today.

This experience is not the same as the new birth.
It is a deeper work of the Spirit that brings:
– an overflowing fullness of the Spirit
– a stronger reverence for God
– a deeper consecration and dedication to His mission
– a greater love for Jesus, for His Word, and for people who need Him

We believe the gifts and manifestations of the Spirit are still active today and are given to empower believers for ministry and to advance God’s Kingdom in the world.

Divine Healing.

Isaiah 53:4–5

Matthew 8:16–17

James 5:14–16

We believe divine healing is part of the Gospel. Jesus didn’t just save our souls, through His suffering, death, and resurrection, He also made healing available. Deliverance from sickness and brokenness is included in the Atonement.

Healing isn’t just something God used to do.

It’s a present promise for every believer because of what Christ accomplished on the Cross.

Through faith, prayer, and obedience to God’s Word, we can experience physical, emotional, and spiritual restoration as God wills.
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is still at work today. As the Church prays in faith and anoints the sick in the name of the Lord, God continues to heal.

The Second Coming of Christ.

1 Thessalonians 4:16–17

Romans 8:23

Titus 2:13

We believe in the Blessed Hope, the pre-tribulation rapture of all true believers.

A day is coming when the Lord Himself will descend from heaven and call His Church home.

Every believer, both those who have died in Christ and those still alive, will be caught up to be with Him forever.

After the Great Tribulation, a time of judgment on the world that has rejected God.

Jesus will return visibly with His Church to establish His Millennial Kingdom on the earth.
And when that Kingdom season is complete, God will bring forth a New Heaven and a New Earth where righteousness reigns and where His people will live with Him forever.

The Final Judgment.

Matthew 25:46

Mark 9:43–48

Revelation 19:20

We believe in a final judgment.

All the wicked who have died will be raised and judged by God according to their deeds. This judgment will show the righteousness of God and the eternal consequences of rejecting His salvation.
Anyone whose name is not in the Book of Life, along with the devil, his angels, the beast, and the false prophet, will be cast into the lake of fire, the second death, for eternity.
This final judgment reminds us of God’s holiness and justice, while also assuring that those who have trusted in Jesus Christ are secure forever.

The New Heavens and the New Earth.

2 Peter 3:13
(Revelation 21–22

We believe, as God has promised, that He will create new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness, peace, and His eternal presence will reign forever.
In this renewed creation, sin, sorrow, death, and pain will be gone.

God’s redeemed people will live in His presence and with the Lamb, experiencing everlasting joy and communion with Him.
As Scripture says, ‘We are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

Marriage.

Genesis 1:27–28

Matthew 19:4–9

Mark 10:5–9

We believe marriage is a holy covenant, established by God from the very beginning.

It is a lifelong, exclusive union between one man and one woman.
Marriage is the foundation of family, the place for raising children, and a reflection of the relationship between Christ and His Church.

It is sacred and cannot be redefined by culture or human opinion.
Marriage is meant for companionship, love, respect, and faithfulness.

It should be entered into with reverence, purity, and the fear of God.

Any sexual relationship outside this covenant goes against Scripture and God’s moral will.

Sexual Immorality, Sexual Identity and Sexual Orientation

Exodus 20:14

Leviticus 18:7–23; 20:10–21 Deuteronomy 5:18

Matthew 5:27–28; 15:19 Romans 1:26–27

1 Corinthians 6:9–13

Galatians 5:19

Ephesians 4:17–19

Colossians 3:5

1 Thessalonians 4:3

Hebrews 13:4

We believe sexual purity is essential to Christian holiness and obedience to God’s Word. Scripture is clear: all sexual activity belongs only within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Anything outside of that is sin and goes against God’s design.
This includes, but is not limited to, adultery, fornication, incest, pornography, prostitution, voyeurism, pedophilia, exhibitionism, sodomy, polygamy, polyamory, and same-sex sexual acts.

These practices violate God’s moral order and bring harm to individuals, families, and society.

God calls His people to live holy and pure lives in every area, including sexuality.

Created in God’s Image: Male and Female

We believe God created humanity in His image, intentionally making people male and female. Men and women are different, yet equal in worth and dignity.

These differences are part of God’s good and unchanging creation and must be honored and respected.
We reject any ideology or practice that seeks to change, deny, or redefine the biological sex God has given.

This includes, but is not limited to, elective sex-reassignment, transgender, transvestite, non-binary, or gender-fluid identities. Such actions reject God’s design and the moral order revealed in Scripture.

Same-Sex Attraction and Conduct

We recognize that some people may experience same-sex attractions, but Scripture calls us to resist these desires and surrender them to Christ.

The Word of God calls every believer to live in purity, self-control, and holiness, no matter the temptation or orientation.
Believers are to refrain from all same-sex sexual acts, which Scripture clearly shows are contrary to God’s design for human sexuality.

Yet redemption and transformation through the Holy Spirit are available to everyone who turns to Christ in repentance and faith.

Pastoral Commitment

Our church is committed to ministering with compassion, truth, and grace to everyone, including those struggling with sexual sin or confusion about their identity.

We proclaim the message of forgiveness, healing, and restoration through Jesus Christ, trusting that His power can redeem every area of life and bring believers into alignment with God’s perfect will.

Race/Ethnicity/Racism.

Galatians 3:28

Acts 17:26

James 2:1

God created every person equally from one man, beyond ethnic or national differences. Our identity in Christ is what matters most, not race or group.

Race is a social construct, not a biblical one.

Racism is a sin of pride and malice, and it must be rejected by everyone who honors God’s image in all people.

No one is exempt from the temptation to be prejudiced, and the Bible cannot be twisted to justify it.

Systemic racism goes against Scripture and Christian principles.

Our church does not promote one ethnic group over another, every person is valued and loved by God.

Love and Grace.

Matthew 25:46

Mark 9:43–48

Revelation 19:20

We believe our real battle isn’t with other people, but with evil and spiritual darkness. Everyone has sinned, yet God’s goodness can lead anyone to repentance.

His grace covers all sin and gives us the power to change, helping us align our lives and self-understanding with Scripture.
Through Christ’s sacrifice, forgiveness and eternal life are offered to all who repent and follow Him.

Because of this grace, we are called to forgive others as we have been forgiven.

And when truth is spoken in love, it brings freedom through Jesus and His Word.

These Statements of Fundamental Truths set the foundation for what we believe and teach at Church of The Way. They are grounded in the infallible Word of God and reflect our commitment to live, preach, and lead according to Scripture.
These truths guide every part of our church, our faith, worship, leadership, ministry, and daily conduct.

Nothing we teach or practice will contradict them.
We affirm that Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, and the Holy Spirit empowers, sanctifies, and unites us to carry out God’s work in the world.

In all we do, we aim to glorify God, advance His Kingdom, and faithfully uphold the gospel of Jesus Christ until He returns in glory.
